Probate Court Office Notices
EARLY CLOSURE: By Order of Chief Superior Court Judge Arthur L. Smith III, the Harris County Courthouse will close to the public at noon on Friday, February 27, 2026. The Probate Court Office will re-open the following Monday, March 2, 2026, at the normal time.
NEW LOCATION: The Probate Court’s main offices are now located in the West Wing of the second floor of the Harris County Courthouse. Please note the Tax Commissioner’s office is now located on the first floor beside the Tax Assessor’s Office.
Certain Probate Court services may be limited for a short time as we complete the transition to our new offices. Please call ahead to confirm which services are currently available before visiting the Probate Court in person.
PROBATE RECORDS: The Probate Court is in the process of organizing and placing paper records into our newly expanded onsite filing system. While estate index books are available for public inspection to verify estates on file, until the onsite public records room is renovated and open to the public certain files may be located only by the Probate Court staff. We expect the new public probate records room to be completed sometime in January 2026.
Until then, if you provide the name of the deceased and the year of death, the Probate Court staff can search the Court’s records to locate an estate file for you. Please be aware that time frames for search results may vary until we complete the process of transferring records into the new filing system.
Per O.C.G.A. § 15-9-60, a $10.00 fee will be assessed for examination of records or files by employees of the Probate Court to provide an abstract of information contained therein or to provide copies therefrom per estate or name. A fee of $1.00 per page will be assessed for copies of records.
